Halloween holds a bit of charm
for us as we remember our
childhood experiences with the day.
Little children just don't understand why Halloween isn't
just
some nice holiday to experience, to dress up in 'fun
clothing',
and shop around the neighborhood for treats.
If we could keep it at that, and only for the very young, it
could
be another time of happiness in a child's life and memory.
But, it's far from innocent anymore.
You don't have to take away your kids fun. Give them an
alternative.
It isn't bad about dressing up
and getting a bag full of candy.
They might even share with you and their friends.
However, if you choose not to let them participate in
Halloween
activities, that is absolutely fine.
Here are some suggestions for
an alternative for Halloween:
As Christians, we
can take a different approach to this holiday,
much like we do with Christmas, and shine the Light for
Jesus
on Halloween.
Parties can be held for
children where Christian games can be played.
Adults can spend the evening in prayer, interceding for
those
who are out and are ignorantly involved in this
devil-oriented celebration.
Don't forget
to inspect the treats for
open wrappers
or suspicious items.
Maybe have a special
fun family dinner that the kids help you make
and rent a family movie to watch together.
Buy a pumpkin and carve a cross
in it, symbolizing that
Jesus is the light of the world.
'Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good
works and glorify your Father in heaven.'
Matthew 5:16
